According to legend, a beautiful mythical bird called Jingwei carried in its bill pebbles form the West Mountains and filled the East Sea to rescue the people from the floods and so created this magic land. A Heavenly Prince visited this coastal land and departed from here for his journey to the South. Ever since, this land became known as Tianjin-Heavenly Son's Ferry.

Tianjin's remarkable history has made it an international trading port and commercial city since the early days.
