March 28, eNorth from Hong Kong: News from "2001 Tianjin Week in Hong Kong" after its opening ceremony: the first industrial park in China for which a Taiwan investor buy land, construct infrastructure and invite investments all by him alone is going to be constructed in Jinnan District, Tianjin. The park in the first phase of development is about 2200 mu and the investment of infrastructure is planned to be not less than US$200 million.

Mr. Cai Qingyuan, the Taiwan investor of this project said the cost of investing in Taiwan was times higher than that was in Tianjin. "Tianjin offers us many favourable policies, through which we clearly understand Tianjin's sincerity and enthusiastism in economic cooperation with others. This time we invest RMB15 billion in Tianjin. After that we can win high-tech, high-added-valued and environmental-protecting investment projects which are totally worth RMB10 billion. That is the main reason we decide to invest in Tianjin. In addition, Jinnan District is located near the port and the international airport, and is not far from Urban Tianjin. The traffic there is very convenient. It is another important reason that we choose Tianjin to put our investment in. Our first phase of development is about 2200 mu. After that, we will go on to negotiate with Jinnan District Government to establish a larger-scaled industrial park. " Mr. Cai said. There's no industrial park that is invested in constructing infrastructure and invited investments by Taiwan investor in mainland China before.

When talking about "2001 Tianjin Week in Hong Kong", Mr. Cai said that there were many groups formed by Taiwan enterprises came to take part in the exhibition and negotiation activities of "Tianjin Week", which indicated that many Taiwan enterprises were interested in investing in Tianjin. "I'm more confident about Tianjin's investment environment after visiting the exhibition." Mr. Cai said.

Mr. Yao Kuiyan, Vice Director of Jinnan District, Tianjin said, when he talked about this project, that in recent years, Jinnan District raised their speed of opening to the outside world. Jinnan District's economic development is also benefitted greatly from its opening. "At present, this investment project plays the most important role in extending Jinnan District's opening and we are trying our best to promote its success. It's imaginable that when the project is implemented, a great change will take place in Jinnan District's economic development." Mr. Yao said.

It's obviously an exciting phenomenon that such an important investment project existed on the first day of "2001 Tianjin Week in Hong Kong". From the grand occassion of this day, we believe that along with the progressing of "Tianjin Week", more "heavyweight" investment projects will exist.
