During the "Tianjin Week in Hong Kong", a Tianjin people would be very proud when you walking along the streets in downtown of Hong Kong. If you talking and asking Hong Kong people about Tianjin, they all would tell you," I know Tianjin, which is hosting a big activity in Hong Kong." Just in a week's time, many people in Hong Kong, from VIPs to common citizens, have gotten a new understanding about the metropolis in North China: Tianjin. Tianjin, which is being constructed to be the international harbor-city, has been impressed by lots of Hong Kong people.

Tianjin Has Excellent Investment Environment

"Many presidents of large groups often asked me that why Motorola can succeed in China. And now I can tell you our secret: just because of Tianjin!" These words made by President of Motorola (China) Electronics Ltd Ms Wangwu Xiaozhen in the welcome reception of HKGCC in 29 March. Her words got the warm applause from hundreds of entrepreneurs in the conference. Ms Wang-Wu was invited to give a speech to introduce Motorola's successful experiences in Tiannjin. She also said that Tianjin has an efficient municipal government, which can provide an excellent investment environment to enterprises to get rich profits.

The reason why her speech are so welcome is just that Tianjin's investment environment really impresses many Chinese and foreign entrepreneurs and attracts their interests. In the "Investment Report and Economic-trading Conference", relative departments of Tianjin contacted and deeply discussed with foreign business people. They all asked for the files about Tianjin. The Commodity Exhibition in Hong Kong Convention & Exhibition Centre was visited by an endless stream of businessmen. They all are profuse in praise to the distinguished Tianjin commodities, like agricultural and sideline products, handicraft and light-industrial products.

Mr. C C Tung, Chairman of Hong Kong General Chamber of Commerce, in understanding the favourable investment environment of Tianjin during the "Tianjin Week", expressed to Mayor Li Shenglin that they would organize a study group to inspect in Tianjin in order to seek good cooperating opportunities within this year. The presidents of some famous enterprises and groups such as Cheung Kong (Holdings) Limited., China Overseas Holdings Limited., Macao Trade and Investment Promotion Institute and Shun Tak Holdings, etc. also expressed their intentions of investing and developing in Tianjin. Through the propagation by "2001 Tianjin Week in Hong Kong", the favourable investment environment of Tianjin enhanced the confidence of more overseas circles to invest and develop in Tianjin.

Tianjin is a Beautiful City

"I have only heard of Tianjin before, but I did not have any concrete impression of it. Now I know that Tianjin is a beautiful city full of vigour and energy with rich history and various kinds of crafts. We'll consider of going to Tianjin soon."

The public show Tianjin held at Time Square, the busiest place in Hong Kong, attracted the attentions of a lot of ordinary Hong Kong citizens. They sang high praise for the fashion show, Zhang's Painted Clay Figurines, Yangliuqing New Year Pictures, Fried Dough Twists and the acrobatic show, etc. from Tianjin. They also actively took part in the activities, answering all the questions about Tianjin and were fond of the little gifts that were given as the award to their correct replies very much. The special performaces by Tianjin Youth Peking Opera Troupe and Tianjin Acrobatic Troupe succeeded greatly, which enabled Hong Kong citizens understand the unique characters of Tianjin.

Tianjin People Have the spirit of Unitification, Work-respecting and Enterprising

"The cities and provinces of inland China held a lot of different activities in Hong Kong. But during the period of "Tianjin Week", Tianjin people's spirit of work-expecting and unification left us very deep impression. Our cooperation with Tianjin people will be very happy." Many Hong Kong people drew such a conclusion after they paticipated all the activities of "2001 Tianjin Week in Hong Kong".

"2001 Tianjin Week in Hong Kong" included 18 various of activities. It was hard to imagine how heavy the working load and how difficult the task was that in such a limited time to centralizedly perform the achievements of all the aspects that Tianjin has got since opening-up and to make Hong Kong and the world know Tianjin. In order to ensure the excellent success of "Tianjin Week", fully taking the interests of the whole into account, developing the spirit of unitification and cooperation, all the relevant departments of Tianjin managed to perform the nice mental outlook of Tianjin. In order to enable the event to be well held, every delegation made full preparation in advance; and they also so concentrated in their work as to give up the opportunities of going to sense the prosperity and excitment of Hong Kong. It was just because of this kind of spirit of work-respecting that every activity got great success, and at the same time, Tianjin people gained the high praise from all the Hong Kong circles.

During "Tianjin Week", Tianjin also organized some sports matches such as "Tianjin-Hong Kong Friendship Football Match" and "Dragon Boat Race", etc., by which the communication between the youths and the teenagers of Tianjin and Hong Kong was tightened. The dragon boat teams from several colleges of Tianjin competed with the ones from Hong Kong and Macao, which performed the spirit of unification and hard-struggle and the competing level of the students of Tianjin's colleges and won nice comments of all the people. The scene of the race was warm. The students cheered, hugged and exchanged their school uniforms after the race which moved the college leaders of the three regions. They all thought this kind of activities that are benificial to the communication among the youths and the teenagers of the three regions should be often held in the future.

Through the effort of all the relevant departments of Tianjin, "2001 Tianjin Week in Hong Kong" raised a "Tianjin Wave" in Hong Kong. Tianjin, the beautiful city in the Bohai Rim, is successfully showing its strengh and nice image of approaching to the new century in a more opening posture and steadier step.
