From 18 March to 26 March last year, the HKSAR Government has organized "TianJin-Hong Kong Week" in TianJIn. This activity is a large communication for responding Cooperation.

The relation between TianJin and Hong Kong is fairly long, which can be traced to last century. IN 1881, there had a directly shipping line which connect TianJin and Hong Kong. After New China's Foundation in 1949 and China Door-opening, Hong Kong has been a intermedia of TianJin and World Economy. TianJin has stable social environment and rich natural resource; and Hong Kong has rich capital and advanced management. The both sides' advantages provide a wide developing space for these two cities. By the end of 2000 year, 4,930 companies from Hong Kong has invested $14.3 billion in TianJin The Companies from Hong Kong has been being the top region to invest in TianJin. The Hong Kong's capital is a main motor of TianJin Economy. The investors, of course, get rich feed-back. Last year, the Export to Hong Kong grew 63.97% and up to HK$ 1.29 billion

Vice-mayor Mr. Wang ShuZu also told reporters that the Period of "Ninth Five-year" is one of the most prosperous periods in the history of TianJin. The municipal economic experienced rapid development and the GDP increased by an average annual rate 15.9%; Economic restructuring was extensively carried forward, and a socialist market economy was preliminarily established. Significant advances were made in the establishment of a modern corporate structure in large and medium-sized state-owned enterprises; the pattern of all-round opening took basic shape, the Construction of TianJin BinHai New District carried foward; some high-tech research has gotten great consequences; living conditions for both urban and rural residents improved considerably; and people's living standards continued to improve. He said that the general developing indicators of TianJin has stood at the top in the country.

Looking ahead at the situation at home and abroad at the beginning of the 21st century, it can be said that the next five to ten years will be an extremely important period for TianJin's economic and social development. In the early century, TainJIn will have finished 3 historical tasks: to develop TianJin into International big port-city and the Economic Center in the North of China, to establish a relatively complete the socialist market economy, to be the early area which realizes fundamental modernization. In the "Tenth Five-Year Plan"，TianJin Economy must step on a new level: GDP will increase by an average annual rate 15.9%; the percent of the third Industry in GDP will be up to 50%; High-tech products will occupy at least 35% of Gross Industry Production and single-private economy in GDP will be up to 30%. In next 5 years, the administration is going to carry many policies on technology innovation, door-opening, economic structure reform, infrastructure and public life.
