from Hong Kong: During "2001 Tianjin Week in Hong Kong, Vice
Mayor of Tianjin Wang Shuzu respectively expressed in "Tianjin
& Hong Kong Tourism Cooperation Conferece and "Modern Logistics
Conference" that Tianjin will invest RMB1.6 billion in the
innovation of the railways between Tianjin and Beijing. This action
not only plays an important role in combining the tourism resources
of Tianjin and Beijing, but also actively promotes the development
of Tianjin's modern logistics.
In "Tianjin & Hong Kong Tourism Cooperation Conference",
Wang Shuzu said the content of this project is to widen the existing
railway between Tianjin and Beijing from 3-track to 4-track and
to build a batch of bridges along the railways. The project is planned
to strat within this year. The mutural-complementary of Tianjin
and Beijing's tourism resources determines the inter-activeness
of the visitor-flow in the two cities. This project is another "belt"
project following the reforming-and-merging project of the airports
in the two cities. The implementary of the project will play an
important role in improving the situation of railway communication
between Tianjin and Beijing and promoting the combining of the tourism

Wang Shuzu said in "Modern Logistics Conference" that
after the construction of the 4th line of Tianjin-Beijing railway
is finished, passengers and goods will be transported on seperate
lines. The top speed of a train will reach 210km/hour, which can
not only raise the ability of goods-transportation, but also shorten
the distance between Tianjin and Beijing by opening up the trans-city
trains which can reach the destination within one hour in high density
and high speed.
