March 29, eNorth from Hong Kong: Ms. Wang Wu Xiaozhen, Chief Representative of Motorola (China), made a speech at today's "Hong Kong General Chamber of Commerce Tianjin Investment Direction Conference" in "2001 Tianjin Week in Hong Kong". In her speech, Ms. Wang urged the investors to invest in Tianjin. Her humorous and convincing conversation won warm applause.

Ms. Wang said Motorola was both the largest foreign investment venture in electronic industry and one of the most successful foreign investment venture in China. She mysteriously said,"Many people asked me what Motorola's secret of success is. Today I would like to share the secret with you." We had surprisingly thought it must have been a business secret, however, we heard the reply was "The secret is choosing Tianjin". Then all the listeners at the conference hall smiled understandingly and applauded for her.

When talking about the three key factors that enabled Motorola to succeed in Tianjin, Ms. Wang turned her head to Mayor Li Shenglin appreciatively and said,"First of all I would like to give some words on Tianjin Government. It is the best, most friendly and most efficient government. For example, as we decided to add investment of US$19 billion to enlarge our producing scale in Tianjin in order to make it become Motorola's producing center of silicon chip in Asia, it took Tianjin Government only 30 days to investigate and approve Motorola's apply for this project. Tianjin Municipal Government and the Economic Development Area Government try to help us with everything, including the tiniest ones. When we were establishing silicon chip factory in Xiqing District, considering the problem of fire-proof, Xiqing District Government helped us establish a fire station 500 meters away from the factory." Although the problems she mentioned were very tiny, they had a lot to do with Tianjin's investment environment. The listeners nodded their heads repeadly and were moved by her words.
